RobertMcC
Selling the VW? I take it the discussion from last night prompted this :) Nah, Been trying to save up forawhile for a Pontiac Vibe or A Toyota Matrix. Same Vech, but rebadged, so figure the Pontaic gonne be cheaper to fix because doesnt have the Toyota name on it... Plus I been in the market for a wagon. TomWood
Gotcha, the vibe and matrix are nice, but definitely agree that the vibe may have cheaper parts.
RobertMcC
And mostley Im getting tired of older cars that require constant repairs. Always had good luck with Toyota.
autumnwalker
Mom has a Vibe. I wanna say 2006, but not entirely sure on that. Bought it new, still driving it today. No issues (zero).
RobertMcC
I like the looks of the matrix front end better then pontaic ( i never understood ) the random placed triangles front end. But if I can have a Toyota but not paying the Toyota pricing on parts, It would be better.
TRUXterra
Cost to repair is the same. The only difference between the two is the body panels & the interior. All other parts are Toyota. Most go with the Vibe because it is less expensive compared to the Toyota. People pay for the name.
RobertMcC
Yeah so I found out.... Talked to owners of both and prices were the same. And I noticed more vibes, 2 at my Apartment and on the way home, Ive seen a half a dozen, but only 1 or 2 matrix...

RobertMcC
Selling it for parts or repairs, perfect for a TDI swap... There's a 01 Jetta TDI waiting for the Passat to go.... so 500$ everything you would need for a TDI swap.

You wanna work out a deal on the drivetrain? Keep the rest of it to scrap if you want - I just want the motor and necessary bits to get it to run. Only thing that I can see that may be a problem, is adapting the DBW pedal because of the forward control. I doubt its gonna reach the motor from the cab. James I'm sure it will fit. Motor adapted for no P/S and A/C. They're narrow motors, just a crap tones of coolant hoses. And of course adapting to reloacte a lot of the coolant lines and oil lines. TomWood
Adapting lines and extending linkage is easyas long as the motor fits

RobertMcC
Adapting lines and extending linkage is easyas long as the motor fits Its just a 4 cylinder, This motor is the 89HP 148Ft TDI. Can boost it up more with nozzles, injectors, bigger turbo. Drive By Wire is the only thing I can't think of how to adapt being its short and can't be kinked, everything else can. RobertMcC
Because the Volvo is forward control so the pedal will have to be mounted, then cable run then looped back and won't reach.
RobSinclair
You could mount the potentiometer for the throttle near the engine and then build a linkage to operate it from the cab.
autumnwalker
Because the Volvo is forward control so the pedal will have to be mounted, then cable run then looped back and won't reach. Since it's drive by wire, can't we just splice longer wires in? The pedal wire only needs to go to the ECU, doesn't it?
