Seems like gmrs is in fact limited to 2w in canada. Makes no sense to me.
-
So, a dude I've been watching has/shows GMRS radios up to 50w.
Based on what you sent, this is illegal in Canada as these are clearly variable antenna and it appears canada requires fixed as well?

You can buy packs of GMRS at any big box store here off the shelf - Canadian Tire, Best Buy, etc. No license required.
They're the little handhelds that parents use with their kids at the beach, mall, whatever.
My understanding is these are frs radios. Specifically ones that are 2 watt with fixed antennas.
The handhelds I'm looking for (as a secondary to vehicle mounted) would be 5 watt.

Anyone here?

Ok rolling out.

define pain?
do you want to be legal is really the only question.
if you feel it's worth the risk and you dont want a hand held, then buy a HAM radio on 70cm
I prefer to be legal. Security clearance and all.

I'll try to show up. Expecting many? If the crowd isn't that big I knight not. Been driving for 3+ hours already

Still on for tonight?

So to get a setup like this @7:08.....would be a pain here?

I run CB and GMRS, and we had a push to get folks switched over to GMRS.
GMRS is much better audio quality....think AM radio vs FM.
The main issue is getting foks switch over, which is why I run both.
I just talked to hi-tech comms and they said I'd need a permit?
Do you have a link ot info/setup information?
-
Hey all,
I'm starting to look into radio comms for the truck. Last time I ran CB and don't think I want to do that again. I've been watching a couple of overland channels that look like they use what I think is GMRS.
Anyone know anything about this?

As stated on FB. I'm in! First time in years.

2021 Gladiator Rubicon.
Dual top, bikini top, hard fold tonneau, spray in liner, all the tech options.

When I got my first rubicon I thrashed the paint within the first 500km.
One thing I will mention.
Provided you play within the limits jeep sets out, and are generally honest, the warranty will be honored. At least at steele chrysler on bedford highway.

So is this still active? Between this and NSJC it seems rather.....silent. Very disappointing.

Hey all!
According to my profile I have not been on here since 2014. Could have sworn I posted randomly since, but, here we go.
So, my wife and I (and possibly our dog) are likely going to be getting back into this offroad thing in prep for what I hope to be an overland build. Then, down the road we move back out west and explore the best coast.Anyway, Is this forum still functioning? Doesnt seem to be nearly as busy as it was years ago.
Aaaaaand, we might hit up coffee nights soon if they are still running.
-
Is there one tonight?
-
I see the fj, we are in Wendy's.
-
Been a while, but I think we will make it since it is a nice night.
-
I hope to make a day of it. Perhaps when it is warm and on a weekend when peoplr are more likely to be available.
