Equipment Guidelines
The following lists outline both the required and suggested equipment for any Backcountry 4×4 trail run. This is a generalized list and no consideration has been made for special vehicle requirements or weather conditions.
Required items are listed in bold text.
PERSONAL |
- Driver’s license
- Appropriate clothing (breathable and weighted to the conditions)
- Bug spray (Something appropriate for ticks)
- Change of clothes (including socks and shoes)
- Food (2,500 calories per day, per person, plus reserve)
- Hiking or trail shoes and rubber boots
- Navigation resources (map and compass, GPS, local guidebooks)
- Solar protection (hat, sunglasses and sunscreen)
- Water (one gallon of water per day, per person plus reserve)
- Windproof and waterproof jacket (regardless of conditions)

VEHICLE |
- Front and rear recovery points (subject to inspection)
- Full-size spare tire (must match tire size on vehicle)
- Vehicle registration documents
- Drivetrain fluids
- Fire extinguisher
- First aid kit
- Flashlight
- Jack (suitable for terrain)
- Jumper cables
- Recovery strap
- Shovel
- Spare parts (appropriate to vehicle)
- Spill cleanup kit
- Tool kit (appropriate to vehicle)
- Winch (appropriate size for vehicle)
