SQRLPWR
Installed my intermittent wiper module, and got a pleasant surprise...it's also variable intermittent idk how rare that is, but every truck I've had my nose in has just had an on/off switch. Matt might be able to chime in.? Also been thinking long and hard about my winch mount. I really hate to loose the chrome bumper, so I think I'm going to do a hidden hitch reciever like the photo. 20200412_131858.mp4
autumnwalker
I do really like the chrome bumpers on the old trucks. I like the hidden receiver idea. H2's had a sort of hidden receiver on the front from the factory and it's how I ran my winch. I think I still have my old winch cradle kicking around if you're looking for one.
Powerram
Cool on the wipers, much nicer to drive, depends on the trim level for the intermittent. Every truck I saw in Alberta was an XLT, so they all had intermittent wipers, except the xl that Tom now has. It had just two speed and off. I find Most of the trucks in the east were xl trim, or custom , and only got the two speed wipers. Brick nose parts might work as well for that as the wiper controls are on the dash too. Nice winch Mount idea, iv done hidden winches on my old dodges, looks awesome
Powerram
I know these arnt Ford's, but shows the finish product of hidden winch, the mount was a piece of 3/8" plate I had local steel shop put a 90deg bend in it for me, gusseted and drilled holes to mount on the frame, I cut some of the rad support out, and intergrated it into the winch Mount. The winch was a big ol' heavy M12000 winch. The pic on the green dodge I had my license plate on a piano hinge, 100% hidden . The second pic has the hook on a factory bumper bolt with a piece extending to hang the winch hook on
SQRLPWR
yup something like that I think once I find a winch and offer it up to the truck I'll know which direction to go.
SQRLPWR
Bought an almost free cheap dirty broke down tool box, just to throw my recovery gear in and keep the box free of clutter. Also pulled out the plastic liner. I'm glad I did because the bed is painted with bedliner, and the plastic liner has started to rub away through to the metal and surface rust is starting. Also pockets of vegetation and water had collected under the plastic liner too. Box is in mint shape though...and I want to keep it that way
autumnwalker
Why would someone paint a bed with bed liner and then throw a plastic liner in over it?
SQRLPWR
Haha yeah...I've read lot of pros and cons for plastic liners. Some say the plastic liner is good for when u need to slide items across the bed, so maybe it was added later. Since I dont haul a lot of stuff, I dont like knowing there's perma-moisture and leaves under there. autumnwalker
I can see that. My truck had a plastic liner in it. I pulled it and had it sprayed after a couple of years. The plastic liner had chafed through the paint and I was getting surface rust. I'm all about the spray in now.
Powerram
Iv had both, both have pros and cons, I like the spray in liner, and few occasions like a slide in liner but my preference is to leave it as it was when new, no liner of any sort , and sometimes if I'm hauling heave sharp items they might penatrate the floor or dent it, I throw a piece of noches 3/4 plywood on the floor
SQRLPWR
That's a great idea!! I could cut the old plastic liner back and sides off so I can just quickly slide it in and out to protect the floor from being dented
SQRLPWR
Truck has a front end binding noise that only happens under shock load, and not if the bumps are large and smooth. It also seems to have started with the SAS. On further inspection there are 2 witness marks, one on either side of the bottom of the frame by the bump stop and track bar mount. The lower coil pads are drilled off center from factory, and I clocked them inbound because that's how it looked best with the (grey) TTB springs. But the TTB springs are smaller in diameter and move around in the coil pad. The bottom winding on the TTB coil is also too small for a stock lower coil retainer, so I swapped out the springs for a (yellow) set that came with the '74 axle. I didn't use them at first because unloaded they are shorter. But on the truck there is no height difference. The '74 coils are thicker and don't seem to bow as much so I'll keep them in for now and buy stock coil retainers, so that'll be my next mission. On the test drive the noise is still there. Back to the drawing board. During my cleanup shower, I remembered when I installed the '74 track bar I only replaced the axle end bushing....my noise might the the other end!
SQRLPWR
Acquired an M12000, so started mocking up a mount that I'll probably build a bumper off.... eventually. It'll be a U shaped mount in between the frame, with a vertical for the winch, plus a ton of gusseting.
SQRLPWR
Upgrade!!!! Ripped out the Panadigital nonsense and installed a genuine AM FM cassette Came with a 'new' Bezel because the old bezel was cracked because of the full weight of the Panasonic was pulling on it.
autumnwalker
Looks great @ovrlndr! That winch should suit you just fine.
SQRLPWR
ok, so I've had a think about this a bit more and I think it's going to be difficult to bend a U so it precisely fits in between my frame rails...and my frame rails are tweaked a little too. So, I'm thinking this will be 6"x6" 3/8" L frame brackets, with 3/16" C's for the bumper, then 3/8" S shape for the winch mount.
SQRLPWR
this is going to be the winner - gusseted of course...just need to find someone with a brake that can handle 3/8" Â

SQRLPWR
Swapped out the well worn but still stiff track bar bushing. Now weirdly it's much much better, but if I hit a big bump hard it'll make the noise. I think it's the trackbar mount rubbing where it's bolted to the engine crossmember. Not anything to be concerned with I think.
SQRLPWR
So I went off script, took a chance and bought a Warn winch tray. It wasnt too much more than buying materials and getting bends made etc. Plus itll look nicer, plus I can return it if I cant make it work. If I do keep it, I'll add side bumpers later. It's generic fit and they sell really expensive brackets made to fit all kinds of different trucks. Tray is 1/2" narrower than the frame. So...I have a couple of decisions i need to make. Do I 1. mount with the frame inside the tray by pulling the frame inwards, as pictured. 2. cut the frame horns back so the tray is tight to the body, and use brackets to the frame 3. make some brackets to mount it above the frame. I'm thinking 3 to keep the winch up high. Im interested in thoughts
89runner
I think I like option 3 keeping it up high. Nice looking tray!
SQRLPWR
Up high, maybe too high and I'll loose the ability to have side bumpers...I'm thinking something in between and tucked in
