I got one rear seat area body mount repaired. Just need to drill and add a couple rosette welds to call it finished. It isn’t pretty but it doesn’t need to be. Some of this body steel is hard to weld to even when it isn’t rusty. Similar to the wheel well this was the easy one so I started with it.

The truck has pulled the tractor out multiple times though and with double low I can let the truck pull and drive the tractor out then jump off and back in the truck, solo recovery haha.

That's awesome!

Any advice on how to get photos posted upright? They are proper in my phone when I select but then get turned when uploading.

This seems to be the answer:

When you use a smartphone to take a photo it saves the orientation of the phone / photo when you take the shot - this board is "smart" enough to interpret that information and display the photo accordingly.

So ... you're taking the photo upside down as far as the phone is concerned (even though the phone rotates the screen so it isn't upside down when you take the photo).

I'll see if there's some mod or something now that can take care of it when uploaded (when I last looked at this years ago there was no "fix").

I knew at one point, but will have to check again. Maybe @autumnwalker knows offhand lol

The driver side wheel well probably took twice as long as the passenger side to repair. Using pieces of a front fender I made patches to repair above my cut line. It got the same 1/4” round stock around the edge and also required some patchwork at the front and back of the wheel well and rocker panel. I’ve made a mental note this time to try and remember to take my photos with phone on other edge next time around haha.

Probably two years ago now I had found a set of Subaru heated leather seats that seemed to be the perfect fit for the truck but never got around to mounting them in the truck. I even pulled a wiring harness with switches at kennys to make them plug and play with only power and ground hook ups required. I have a keyed power source in my aux fuse panel for supply. I originally thought that I would be able to use two of the mounts on each seat but I would have been close to hitting my head on the roof. I cut all the mounts down and modified to fit with only a 1/2” height increase over stock.

Well other projects got in the way and covid made its way into the house so I’m delayed in making an update again, excuses I know.

I originally installed the 4”HD Leafs up front from TG but found the truck too light for them so I had taken a leaf out a couple years back. Swapping to a V6 and adding a winch has added enough weight to need the extra leaf again so I finally got around to reinstalling it so I would stop hitting the bump stops so easily. I also got the metal work done on my replacement tailgate. I had a local shop bend me a new piece to replace the top edge that had lots of rust. The bottom edge of the tailgate had rust coming through from the inside so I opted to cut out and replace. One on the badges on the rear gate also pokes through the metal and always causes rust so this area was replaced too. The inside of the truck got a fresh coat of brush on tremclad while the interior is out.

Got the fill done on the tailgate and wheel wells for the most part. There may be a touch of glazing putty required to smooth out but only if I get particular. The seam between body panels on the passenger side rocker panel was cracking so I took a look with a wire wheel and found another rust area to address. I needed a break from the body work so I cut and re-welded the side of my bumper back on better in line with the body. I also shortened the sliders to match the bigger opening of the rear wheel wells.

I had some new parts come in too. Door seals to fix the torn and sagging seals I’ve always lived with on the truck and new conversion headlight fixtures so I can run a H4 bulb instead of sealed beams. I like the look of them and hopefully they will be much brighter. I could always put in LED bulbs but would require additional wiring for that conversion. Anything will be better than the stock ones.

I sanded my spare grill and painted it black since I was on a sanding kick with the body work too. Not sure how the paint will hold up but I like how it turned out.

I purchased LED bulbs and put them in the aftermarket Hella Quartz Halogen housings in the Scout.  Aside from a quick test in the garage I’ve not had those out at night though!
HOWEVER, we switched the factory Halogen headlight bulbs in the 2014 Ford Escape to LED and ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM.  Over a year ago!  🤪

I may end up with LED eventually but expect this will be a huge upgrade over old, stock headlights!

I did the same headlight conversation on the old f150, and it made a world of difference. Looking good!!

I can’t wait to see the difference. The sealed beams on it probably have been on it for 10 years maybe?

I definitely didn’t plan on this much work this time around, started with a tailgate replacement and then I couldn’t help but address some other issues I knew were lurking. Some tasks like headights are just a nice break from body work haha.

Took another break from the truck work in May to landscape and seed our lawn. Got back at it though and got everything I’m going to paint wet sanded. Then I masked everything off that I don’t want to paint, including the shop. I reapplied my rocker guard as some areas previous covered were repaired and did not have the textured look. The plan is to paint tomorrow!

Well my compressor had barely enough juice to maintain minimum pressure I needed at the gun but I went for it anyways. My gun also is not spraying evenly, my own fault for not cleaning properly the last couple times I used it and I can’t seem to get it to spray right. Since the paint is going to see spruce trees in about a weeks time it does ‘t really matter anyways, just going for one color (ish).  It took about two quarts to cover everything twice leaving me at least enough to paint this much again from my original gallon I bought 5 years ago! There was a lot of paint hanging in the air by the time I finished but I will let dry for an hour before I open the doors and risk more dust and bugs.

I pulled the plastic down off of the shop walls later in the evening and unmasked the truck the following morning once the paint had hardened some. I got all the panels back on the truck and the guts back in the doors. Just the back door needs the window mechanism reinstalled.
