SQRLPWR
Best fastest way to clean a rusty stinky gas tank?
89runner
I've been wanting to try this stuff out but it's pricey stuff: http://www.por15.com/POR-15supregsup-Fuel-Tank-Repair-Kit_p_62.html
sar4x4
Hmm! Interesting. Some folks probably swear by JBWeld type products. For a small gas engine? Zuk? One and the same? Lol. For my Burb the solution would probably be a repro tank. They're dead easy to come by for many models!
SQRLPWR
Yeah I'm sure at $90 it works pretty good if you can't buy a new tank. A Sami tank is 230 delivered. I just need to clean this one out of the yellow Sami. I've had it soaking in diluted CLR all day. I'll see what it's like in the morning.
Buzz34
How's the tank cleaning? We will be working on the truck which needs to clean the tank as well right after we finished installing the LED lights, smittybilt bumper and new shocks on the current Jeep project. Heard how good Por15's are but looking for some cheaper option.
SQRLPWR
CLR didn't really touch it, but I diluted it which probably didn't help at all.

Nightpath
I sandblasted mine, after soaking it in a vinegar solution for a few days. Sandblasted the rest from it. After all the work was done I bought a new one that I found on sale. Should have kept it and saved, gas fumes don't allow rust to form.
SQRLPWR
I used some muriatic acid to strip off the rust. It worked really well, but that stuff is pure evil!! It also stripped off the galvanization layer, and now it's rusty again in the open air. I ended up buying a new tank to be 100% sure. I just gotta get my skid plate finished before I install it. Nightpath
You really can not beat a new tank versus something older with rust. The issue I have is that once the rust is gone how much did I just spend on making the tank thinner?
