I had to do a quick mock-up of the front fenders.  It was hard not to crank the welder up, but I ordered a new welding helmet for this project.  Mines an auto darkening, but a shade 11, and I find it too dark.  When Matt let me borrow his adjustable one, it was sooo much easier to see what I was doing.  I figured this project deserved me being able to see what I'm doing. :)

The sheet metal is 16 gauge, so my plan is to tack everything, then stitch weld, but move around to help keep things cool.  I'll use a seam sealer to keep dirt from building up and causing it to rust.  It'll be all inside welds too, so it should look pretty clean on the outside.  The key will be clamps, clamps and more clamps!  I'll need to keep the skins as tight to the tubes as I can.

OK, so I might be slightly impatient.  I have one front fender about 95% done. :)  I tell ya, welding sheet metal to tube isn't all that fun, lol.  Of course, if I knew what I was doing, it might be easier!

OK, I need you guys opinion.  Most pics of seen of Jeeps that had the same or similar fenders all had them painted black.  I'm not sure if I want black...  Should I color match them with the Jeep, or go with a different shade of grey like what the current plastic flares are?
