SQRLPWR
So picked up the Bronco axle from way out Windsor way.... On the way back just past Ellershouse, the X started to just very slightly hesitate under load. By the time I get to Lower Sackville, it was very bad, and she stalled out at the Kent lights, and wouldn't re-start. I had to push her into the car park past the Midas, where I checked the rotor, and cap and cleaned it up a little - nothing else seemed out of place. She started back up, running rough but enough to get me to Windsor Junction, and into Perry Lake Estates, where she stopped dead with LOTS of smoke - both cats were glowing cherry red hot!! Now she wont re-start, so I had to abandon. Um...any thoughts ?

SQRLPWR
I'm literally 2 mins back road from home. My gut feeling on the breakdown is the distributor...they're known to throw the bearing or shred their gear teeth.
Brunet-Hemi
thats all giberish to me. lol but yeah im ok with a tow strap on back roads. its a little late but i can do tonight, or before 10am tomorrow,
Jawritch
I'd say it sounds like a no spark issue.
Powerram
Cats melted down and exhaust can't exit engine
SQRLPWR
Yeah, a bad distro would do no spark. Cats are prolly clogged now too.
SQRLPWR
Initially I thought it was fuel starvation... Until I saw the cats
TacoMitch
I agree with Justin! the red cats are telling me that there's lack of ignition! I wouldn't try to drive it anymore, lack of ignition can cause cylinder wash down and potentially seize it.. then you're in to bigger issues! My04T4R
So its fixable then? I was worried i was about to see a second engine swap this month lol. Ill be honest also I was very much looking forward to seeing some pix of the x with the new meats tearing it up on bng. Best of luck.
SQRLPWR
well anything is fixable LOL, but by B&G, maybe not. Hoping it's just the common distributor issue. If the cats melted too, I'll just hollow them out.
derekmac
Jay, if you don't get it running, and still want to go, I can pick you up on the way in. It'll be a back seat ride though, but I'm sure someone else will have an empty front seat.
SQRLPWR
Thanks for the offer. If I can't get her going today, then I'll probably spend the day installing bathroom dry-wall - I'm not a great passenger LOL
SQRLPWR
Main stealer just quoted me $688.62 + tax for a new distributor....I'm definitely dry-walling until further notice LOL canadapartsonline et-al are a third of that price. I've got a lead on a used one, but it's not getting pulled until Sunday/Monday.
autumnwalker
Sucks Jay - hopefully it's just the distributor and you get her back up and running quickly.
SQRLPWR
thanks. 2 things are known to go on these - the bearing and the drive gear. the shaft isn't wobbling, so it must be play in the drive gear.
Jake
The cost of a new distributor blows my mind!
SQRLPWR
I know...I had to ask him to repeat that number!! Partsource was $328 Napa $418 I found one for $122 + shipping if all else fails with the used one.
SQRLPWR
on the plus side, the cats are still letting out exhaust gas, so I don't think they got clogged too much, if at all.
TomWood
If all else fails rockauto.com has one for $143 shipped to your door in CAD funds.
