Custom Tow Ropes and Kinetic Recovery Ropes

Webbler

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just wondering if there's any interest in custom made tow ropes and kinetic recovery ropes.

I can make tow ropes any length with plain eyes, hooks, thimbles, or any combination of end fittings with breaking strength up to 47000 lbs.

I can make kinetic recovery ropes from double braid nylon in any length with breaking strength up to 50000 lbs.

I can make soft shackles from synthetic rope, they're as strong as steel shackles but a fraction of the weight so there's less chance of them becoming a missile in the event of a broken rope.

Prices will vary depending on length, strength, and end fittings. I don't have a price list yet, but they will be significantly cheaper than the big name brand ropes.

Thanks for looking.

Hi again,

Thanks for the replies. I'll get some pictures up over the next couple days. I can't do different colors for the shackles at this time as my supplier only has Dyneema in grey.

Recovery Rope Prices:

19000lb Breaking Strength, 30ft: $105.

33500lb Breaking Strength, 30ft: $150.

The soft shackles will be around $50 each unless I can get a better deal from my supplier. If there's enough interest in them I'll order a whole reel of Dyneema so I can get a better price.

If there's any other lengths or strength that anyone is interested in, please let me know.

Cheers

Hi again,

Recovery Rope Prices:

19000lb Breaking Strength, 20ft: $65, 30ft: $80.

33500lb Breaking Strength, 20ft: $75, 30ft: $95.

These are kinetic recovery ropes like a Bubba Rope? What are the thicknesses of each and do you have a warranty on them?

My kinetic ropes are similar to Bubba Ropes, the big difference is that mine aren't as fancy. I don't have a urethane coating on my rope but they're made from the same style of rope (double braided nylon) and therefore equally strong and with similar elongation. The rope I use is "Novagold" made by Novabraid in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, you can check out their site for all the technical specifications on the rope (http://www.novabraid.com/rope/novagold.html).

Thickness is as follows:

1/2" - 8000 lbs breaking strength

5/8" - 14 800 lbs breaking strength

3/4" - 19 000 lbs breaking strength

7/8" - 28 000 lbs breaking strength

1" - 33 500 lbs breaking strength

1 1/8" - 45000 lbs breaking strength

1 1/4" - 52 000 lbs breaking strength

1 1/2" - 74 000 lbs breaking strength

The elongation is somewhere around 30% at breaking strength and around 16% at 40% load. There's a chart on the Novagold page.

As for warranty, I was thinking 1 year for manufacturing defects. Obviously I can't warrant against improper use or abuse, but if the rope fails under normal use within 1 year from date of purchase I will replace it free of charge. I'll need to inspect the failed rope before I replace it.

I like the braid quality that I am seeing in these ropes if they are actual pics. Pic posted for reference (winch line)

Not to flame, but I would never trust a slip knot holding during a recovery unless it was at one of the end points.

  • 1 year later...

Hi again,

I've got some more ropes for sale, the prices have changed from before due to a math error on my part.  Here's what I have:

3/4" x 30' Recovery Ropes - $105

7/8" x 30' Recovery Ropes with nylon chafe protection on the eyes - $140

1" x 30' Recovery Ropes with nylon chafe protection on the eyes - $160

That's just a list of what I have made ready to go.  I can make ropes of any other lengths/diameters and I can also make static tow ropes, soft shackles, and bridles.

Thanks for looking.
