autumnwalker
I like those proper cyclone filters - they actually serve a purpose.
SQRLPWR
I've got one of these to put on it....but I wasn't sure if I like it as it's pretty big - it fits a 3" pipe
autumnwalker
No idea what that one does - the cyclone one that the run on the H1's actually creates a vortex to help reduce the sand that gets injested into the filter.
SQRLPWR
My eBay knock off takes air from underneath has angled inlets to promote air swirl while pulling air from directly below. Dust separates by centrifugal forces and withdrawn automatically - no need to clean" http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/32490-The-quot-bird-feeder-quot-snorkel-head-what-s-it-s-purpose/page2

TRUXterra
Started to mock up a DIY snorkel from 2 inch ABS I've been thinking about this as well. I don't like to add on to the outside of the fenders given the tight trails. I've come really close in a couple of holes to sucking in water, as in less than 2". Not sure if the pipe will fit behind the fender, but I'll be checking when I install my side marker/blinker LED's on the side of the fender in a couple weeks. SQRLPWR
2" fits nice on mine, and i just went to get 3"..but damn that seemed like a big difference in size, I'm not sure 3" will fit at all.....TBC

sar4x4
Bought a used manual shift T-case tonight for the Dodge diesel I bought that has a grenaded electric-shift T-case. Manual shift are a 'dime a dozen', used electric-shift don't exist. We'll see if this hair-brained scheme works! At the very least I want to be able to start and drive the truck, even if waiting for an e-shift. Too many projects, so little time!
e36m3
Jay, cant you fit 2.5 inch tubing in there?
SQRLPWR
yeah 2.5 would be perfect, but I couldn't find any in any of the usual diy stores, so 2 inches it will have to be for now. I did some chopping of the fender and we're almost done. I'm not sure how I'm gonna cap it off at the top. My mushroom is way too big for 2 inch. SQRLPWR
Thanks. I was going to glue it all together today, but I couldn't find the glue I bought for it....my garage is like the Bermuda Triangle sometimes.
e36m3
when you glue it all together, how will you remove your fender? by sliding it along the snorkel pipe?
SQRLPWR
I know it looks like it, but the pipe doesn't go through the fender. I made some room on the inner fender so that the pipe fits between the inner and outer.

SQRLPWR
Today was a tale of ups and downs.... The ups; I got all the pipework just perfect ready to cement it in place The downs; I disassembled the pipes and bends ready to cement it thinking I'd have plenty of time to adjust...NOPE, damn that stuff dried quickly and I made a complete hash of it!! I now need new 45 and 22.5 degree bends :( The ups; I made up a little bracket to hold the pipe in the A pillar
e36m3
haha, i learned that a couple months ago while doing my kitchen. that stuff really becomes like cement in a matter of seconds

mrjoecanadian
You might want a rubber joint before going up the a piller, it would suck having to cut the pipe if you need to change your windshield or something.
SQRLPWR
Thanks for the tip. The pipe will screw on/off the bracket tho, and I could cut the pipe under the fender and re-joint as a last resort
e36m3
you could just unscrew it from the bracket and from your airbox. no need to cut the pipe at all
SQRLPWR
Yeah true...but the pipe I'll be connecting the snorkel to is a piece of removable pipe coming out of the airbox at an angle, so I'll probably need to seal that all up tight. no big deal if I have to re-do it in any event
