Developed a horrible noise on the last trail run; turned out my driveline skid was bent into my exhaust pipe and was vibrating whenever the chasis was loaded up (acceleration, flexing, etc.).

I pulled the skids off and removed about 50lbs of mud / dirt, discovered a few more dents in the front plate.

You can see on the driveline skid (below) where the impact was; seemed pretty minor.

But that hit was enough to bend it up about 1/4" - see the gap between the rail and the floor? the other two pieces of pipe are flat to the floor... this one is up about 1/4".

And this is the spot that was vibrating on the exhaust pipe.

Next posts will be repairing my drive line skid and somehow beefing it up to avoid this happening again in the future!

Today Scott x2 beefed up Scott [Autumwalkers] skid plate that was bent.

And Scott [autumwalker] got to work on his welding skills..... Having two Scotts on one project is confusing !

and as you can tell, i have a huge passion/ addiction of welding photos.

97cherokee and I persuaded my driveline skid plate back into position today and beefed it up substantially with 1/4" checker plate.

The last picture shows three coats of paint on the top side of the skid - I'll flip it in the morning and put a few coats of bedliner the bottom side. Then comes the fun part of bolting it back on - it weighs a ******* ton!

Refitted the skidplates tonight; took way longer than expected due to some clearance issues.

Here's where I started:

Then after it was 1/2 bolted up I realized it wasn't going to fit (the skids almost key together). So after 1 torched drill (trying to cut nice holes w/ hole saw) and 5 cutoff wheels this is what I ended up with:

Then it took some wrestling with the plate (it weighs a good 80 lbs) and some liberal use of my 3.5 ton floor jack to press the thing back up to the cross members (apparently it was still a bit tweaked) I got er bolted on.

The holes had to be cut out because this skidplate fits under the front differential plate and the clearance is basically zero. So these holes are actually still covered by the front plate when assembled. I think I will clean this up someday (when I get my own welder), but for now it'll work.
