  1. It was good to meet some of the group. BTW: Safe travels Scott and take a little heater and an extension cord ;)
  2. The coffee is fresh and I'm early ;)
  3. I'll be at a workshop with the NSHBA for the day and figured a coffee would be needed before the 3 hour drive home. I'll be in the neighbourhood anyway. Hope to see you guys there.
  4. Does coffee night happen every Thursday? Does the location shift? Curious about next week.
  5. Tyler, I learned a very valuable lesson many years ago when I had a CJ and your pic reminded me of it. Jeeps will go 'Just about' anywhere. :king: Sorry, I tried to delete this and put it in the comment section, I need Mod help.

Well, Peck's is a given where I live and wheel. They're not really local to the HRM, but then again, neither is California. Call 245-5858 Monday to Friday and ask for Tracy or Jason. I know that parts that I've ordered thru Peck's (and WK parts aren't always easy to find) have been as good or better than prices I've found anywhere, and they treat you well. And for people like me who aren't mechanically inclined, they have one of the best installation and fabrication guys around, Alan Justason.

I think your best bet is to deal with CVO or APJs. They're knowledgeable, they're local, and they wheel.
  8. There is a discussion going on at the NSJC forum as well as on Facebook about getting bigger tires. I thought I would share what I went through when I decided to go bigger on my WK. It was not a simple process: Since my clearances were already tight on my WK, I really had to figure out, not only what size tire, BUT what rim would work as well. I was going taller and wider with tires so I had to go to a very different Backspace and Offset for my rims. The inside sidewalls of my front tires are still the same distance from by upper ball joint that my stock setup was. But, it really narrowed my wheel selection because of these issues. Not every wheel that I liked was available in a 5 on 5 bolt pattern with the proper O/S and B/S. I looked at hundreds of wheels and picked a handful that I would be happy with. I downloaded specs on them and decided which ones would work. Then, off to a shop like Peck's, APJs or CVO to find out what they can get from my list. This might sound a bit anal, but it wasn't as simple as just going to CTC and saying give me 5 of those. Even after all my prep work, I still wasn't 100% sure they'd work until we actually installed them. The only issue I had was a bit of rubbing when turning sharp. I also can't imagine what it would have been like to order them online either, especially if they didn't fit. That's one reason why I think it's better to buy local for your Jeep, especially when you can rely on someone else's expertise to guide you. http://robrobinette.com/wheel_offset.htm
  9. It's always wiser to go on group trail runs. Off-road clubs get permission to cross private property (trails), typically have a form of insurance when on private property (trails), and always 'Tread Lightly'. If you decide to just go wheeling on some woods trail, without asking permission, you may get stuck, lost, or in some parts of the province...shot at. :)
  10. What was the term Apple used years ago when they came out with the iPod and iTunes....Halo Affect? I used to swear by Dell for my work, and I still love my 30" monitor, but the last few computers have not had the same build quality as some of my earlier ones. And I didn't really open a can of worms, everyone has their own ideas, experiences, and opinions. We're all different, as you can see by our rigs. This is a good thing, otherwise we'd all drive 3 year old, silver Caravans and live in a 1200 sf bungalow in the burbs. :king:
  11. This is pretty appropriate, I have been trying for almost 15 minutes to start this thread on my Windows laptop. My anti-virus program decidied to start running when I was going in here, so I paused it, but my computer is still running in bull low. I just wanted to make some comments about paying for quality and avoiding frustrations (how appropriate). I have been an admirer of Apple since the Macintosh days. In our house of 3 plus my office of me, we have 2 Windows desktops, 1 Windows laptop, 2 Mac laptops (1 is almost 10 years old), 3 iPods, 2 iPhones, and 1 iPad. The Macs may have cost more than a cheap PC but they are frustration free. Having said all this, I found 2 articles today that reinforce my appreciation for the quality and design of my Apple products, actually, that applies to any product of quality and good design. I think it was Ben Franklin that said "the best is always cheapest". So, if you're in the market for a tablet but think an iPad is too pricey, here's an opportunity to save money on a new Windows Surface Tablet, the one that Microsoft has made to blow the iPad out the water. Look for discounted prices on other Windows 8 tablets too. http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/03/07/with-apples-ipad-besting-windows-8-microsoft-slashes-prices-alters-tactics And, if you're not concerned with the security of your portable device, check out this http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/03/07/apple-marketing-chief-uses-rare-twitter-post-to-take-shot-at-android-security-issues
  12. This was taken at the Support the Troops run in November. The trail is called Veteran's Alley, I believe, it's just outside of Greenwood on South Mountain. The beginning is a tight woods trail with some rock and then out onto a power line where some of the bigger rigs tried rock climbing. Great trail but Mario and I both got hung up on stumps. We had everything from pretty much stock TJs, Bill Savoie's Willys, right on up to Robert's Jiberty and Tracy Peck's fully built JKU that he won.
  13. This is for Democedes. Not your typical Liberty.
  14. And if you're looking for winches, check with Peck's in Digby 245-5858, Tracy Peck and Jason Riley are both serious wheelers and they've got some of the best prices and great service. Just recently, someone on the NSJC forum was looking at the 8000# Warn that was on sale at PA and Peck's regular price was better. If you're in the Valley, they also install what they sell. There are other spots to check in HRM as well, CVO, APJ, and Steeles Chrysler (Jeep stuff). Just FYI.
  15. Another Valley rig, this is great. Welcome. Robert mentioned the AGM on March 9th. Any info on place and time, I'd like to plan on coming up for it, it's a 3 hour run but I might be able to convince my wife and son that we should get some culture, or at least a fun day out.
  16. A fine day of wheeling. It's nice to see such a variety of rigs out, even shiny ones, oooo :D
  17. That is a sharp looking Toy, will there be rear seats where the roll-bar is?
  18. Scott, here's the Roof Top Cargo Carrier I have on the Grand, but I bought it through Sears for $139.95, you can also get an 18" extension section to make it 5'6" long instead of 4' like mine. http://www.rolaproducts.com/content/products.aspx?lvl=3&parentid=2000&catID=2025&part=59504
