Iv been gearing up a tow truck, for on the road tows/ recovery . Been a dream for years and is almost finished. Hopefully it will be insured by mid next week. It has NO connection or reference to my day job, for those that know what my day job is. Anyway, here is what I've been investing all my money and time into. It's almost finished, few little details to iron out. Chassis is F-Superduty (F450) and wrecker gear is Challenger 4800 twin line with wheelift. Also equipped with dollies for those AWD/4x4 vehicles or excessively low vehicles. Here is the truck, it has super low kms, and has never been worked as a commerical unit. (The gear is in like new condition) It has a neat history of being used in Montreal Grand Prix races for recovering the F-1 race cars in the 1990's. Still working out some details. But it is a huge step to have the unit up and running for the road. Now to get Mrs. Powerram trained up to run it haha, she has ran it in the yard some lol6 points

Got the truck home, Shop did everything I asked them to, yesterday I saw that the antifriction pads were missing in the rear location of the deck. Ended up getting a sheet of UHMW ( Ultra High Molecular Weight ) polyethylene. It's a very dense very slippery surface , used between the aluminum deck and the steel subcarrier. It was a bit of a chore to cut but I got it cut and placed in the plate. I have enough uhmw to replace all the pads and the strips . Then onto wiring , the deck side marker light have been out since iv owned the truck , so now they are operational, also the upper signal lights didn't have brake lights, found the issue, made some wire swaps and now they function with brakes and signals. I put my youngest to work on polishing. And she did pretty good. Few more minor things to do, more updates as they get done5 points

The speed sensor issue has been resolved. I swapped out a burned out component with a spare dash and I now have an electronic output from my cable driven speedometer to my ECU. No codes and no engine light now on my swap!5 points

Update, My towtruck is in a shop to have the repairs done and MVI, I believe I left it with the best, I have picked up the parts needed for the MVI, nothing major, mostly little things, it's a smaller shop iv left it with so it's not first in line, but I know they will get to it when they can. Getting pretty excited.5 points

So this is really starting to take shape. Iv got most of the major things to build my wrecker now, the blue wrecker body above, a cat powered chassis and now a f600 cab and front clip, with Rockwell axles going under it. Just picked up the cab and flip nose last night. Its usable and has a nice interior.5 points

I picked up a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport with about 73,000 km and lots of goodies. 6 speed manual. I'm the second owner. Factory hard top + "sprint top" soft top from Bestop. Smittybilt XRC 9.5k winch w/ synthetic rope. ProComp 4" Stage I lift kit with AEV control arm drop brackets. ProComp adjustable front and JKS adjustable rear track bars. JKS quick disconnect swaybar end links. Aftermarket tie rod and drag link - looks beefier than factory, but not sure of manufacturer. 35" Goodyear Duratrac's on some sort of aftermarket wheel. Rubicon axles + factory lockers. Rear is trussed, front is trussed and sleeved. 4.10 gears ... looks like it may have C gussets as well. Superchips Flashpaq to account for gears and tires. Aftermarket front + rear bumpers (Smittybilt I believe) and a few other goodies like Rigid lights and bumper mounted tire carrier.4 points

Got the tires mounted on the wheels and the wheels on the Jeep. Super happy with them for fitment. No rubbing lock to lock. I think they will get into the liners a bit when articulating, but I do have a new set of metal liners for the front that hopefully will help there. Ended up replacing the front left caliper and new pads in the front. I should have done the right side as well - so I'll do that next. Still pulling slightly to the right under braking, but much better than it was. The left caliper piston was clearly stuck. Greased up the front end components (they needed it!). Found a boot with a pin hole on one of the ball joints for the tie rod. Can I just replace that boot or do I need a new ball joint? I think it's called a ball joint ... screws into the end of the tie rod and connects it to the pitman arm.4 points

Started bleeding lines today. From the master cylinder to each wheel. Didn’t get too far yet!4 points

Hopefully this year I get wheeling again, I'm not married to my towtruck anymore and with every weekend off, Hoping I can participate and maybe even lead a few runs. My daily/wheeler is in the works and not bad on fuel. Getting the reliability part finished up, next will be the Sas drive train to suit wheeling. Glad to hear the club will carry on .4 points

Actually started this thing up the other evening and put air in the tires. Front left must have dry rotted to the point of a slow leak. Surprised it fired and the gas was any good. Ran great! Took it for a little spin around the block to get things moving. Brake calliper has not fixed itself yet. Deck is now done and shed shelving is nearing completion to get the junk out of the garage to pull this thing in. Priorities ...4 points

Luckily I had a spare cam pulley. I reassembled and the noise is completely gone, no tick, nothing. The only noises to be heard in the driving video are the truck itself shaking because my krawlers are no longer round from sitting for the last couple months. They flat spot and I need to put more than 10km on them to get them round “ish” again but this test drive was a success! IMG_9361.MOV IMG_9362.MOV4 points

Some update, picked up a different chassis to put under the wrecker gear, a medium duty topkick, still going to build the 4x4 wrecker, but need something to get rolling with now. Its currently in Alberta, I'm going to drive it home in Oct. Specs are 1989, the last of this body topkick, 3208T Cat , 10 speed, air brakes. Not many left around this body style, should be pretty easy to identify me going down the road. And the price was right, milage is 300,000 so should be lots of life left in it4 points

Didn't notice if there were trucks at Tim's in Woodside, I was across the street with the Classic and Tuner cars. Had a blast, my truck was fresh meat, never been there before, and therefore very popular! Even though some thought it was a Bronco! Blasphemy!4 points

here are the photos I got of the run today.. Videos to follow soon, i'll put a teaser up this evening. Great day out, wont warm up for like a month, but worth it! So, it was an icy snowy day, hummer and ford parked part way through and hopped in with people...Rover was the winch bait of the day, but at the same time, shocked everyone in some spots that thing made it through! Everyone fell at least once, myself like 4 times, sprained my foot.. gonna be sore tomorrow !4 points
